Clube da Esquina (Lo Borges & Milton Nascimento) - Clube da Esquina- 1972
the essence of beauty
That's how it goes: You grow up on american/european 90's indie, then - 80's indie, then - 60's psychedelia, then you get introduced to american folk and more... and more... and then you discover a record from Brasil that puts all of the above in a shame... just because you realise that THIS is what all of the above tried to express, but didn't even get close to that... Milton Nascimento - one of Brasil's biggest musicians of last 40 years and one of the most soulful composers in the world. Lo Borges - one of Brasil's biggest rock-stars. Clube Da Esquina (Corner Club) - collective of artists from Minas Gerais. Ifluenced by baroque music, rock, psychedelia, jazz and brazillian country music, Clube, as well as Tropicalia in Rio, was one of the movements that achieved greater resonance outside of Brasil in the post-bossa nova period (beginning in the late 1960s and early 1970s). Musically it's like Beatles, early Pink Floyd, Coltrane and Miles, Sam Cooke, Luis Bonfa, Joni Mitchell, 16th century madrigals, first spring flowers, summer butterflies, golden autumn, dancing snowflakes and carnivals of Rio and Venice put together, multiplied by 1000, heavily mixed, boiled up and then slowly dripped in your ears. But this recipe still doesn't describe the heaviest and the highest soulful experience I had and always have while listening to this record. "Beaty will save the world", they say. If it will fail, this record will do the job perfectly...
